Sperm selection for In-Vitro fertilization

Sperm selection using the Micromanipulation method (IMSI)

The benefits of the IMSI Bartoov Method

The IMSI Bartoov method is a unique method for the morphological selection of sperm cells for In-Vitro fertilization (IVF), developed by Prof. Benjamin Bartoov.

Using this method of treatment:

Doubles the rate of successful pregnancies

Enhances the rate of embryo implantation

Reduces the rate of miscarriages during the first trimester

Doubles the chance of a live birth.

Who do we recommend to undergo a sperm selection using the IMSI Bartoov method?

Couples who failed the In- Vitro fertilization process for an explained or unexplained reason

Men who suffer from low sperm quality

In cases of reoccurring miscarriages during the first trimester, when no problem was found with the woman or when treatment of the woman was unsuccessful.

Men who suffer from Azoospermia, and when in searching for sperm cells under enhanced magnification we succeeded in finding a few mobile

sperm cells. Men who have limited samples of frozen sperm cells and it is important to make the best use of them.

Couples who failed ova donation treatments.

What is this method and how is it performed?

The selection is carried out simultaneously with the extraction of the ova and selected sperm cells, which are then delivered by the patient to the medical center where the fertilization process takes place. At this stage the embryologist is requested to inject the highest quality sperm cells into the ova of the best morphological quality.

The IMSI method is based on 80 different definitions of the structure of the spermcell head.

These definitions were developed by Prof. Bartoov, following a study which lasted for about 20 years using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) which enable the magnification by 20,000 times. A reversed light microscope was developed for clinical use and magnifies by 6,000 times using DIC optics.

The selection of sperm cells under enhanced magnification for ova donation overseas.

There are patients who failed the In-Vitro fertilization treatments multiple times and were referred to fertility treatments overseas using the ova of a young donor. Despite the fact that the ova used for fertilization in such a treatment are usually of the best quality, there are still patients who failed this treatment several times due to a low morphology of the sperm. In such cases we recommend to undergo a selection of the morphologically normal sperm cells and send these cells for the ova donation. The selection is recommended also in cases when there is a predetermined problem with sperm morphology even before the couple had experienced failure with the ova donation.
